Certifications

For Certification, a technology must have demonstrated confidence of continued effectiveness: i.e., it will perform as intended, conform to the seller’s specifications, and is safe for use as intended. In addition to the benefits provided under Designation, Certification allows Sellers of antiterrorism technologies to assert the Government Contractor Defense that immunizes Sellers from liability for claims arising from acts of terrorism. Technologies that receive Certification will be also placed on an Approved Products List for Homeland Security. Designation is a prerequisite for Certification.

BioPort Corporation

Emergent BioDefense Operations Lansing LLC provides BioThrax® (the "Technology"). The Technology is a sterile liquid suspension made from cell-free filtrates of microaerophilic cultures of an avirulent, nonencapsulated strain of Bacillus anthracis. The Technology is U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA")-licensed for active immunization of individuals between 18 and 65 years of age to prevent disease caused by Bacillus anthracis. The Technology is to be administered and used in a manner consistent with its FDA licensing as a pre-exposure prophylaxis or as directed by the U.S. Government as a post-exposure prophylaxis. RSDL (Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion Kit) is a topical skin decontamination product intended to neutralize or remove chemical warfare agents and toxins from the skin. Using the lotion can significantly reduce the effects of exposure to chemical warfare.

The Technology is a software component used by United States Postal Service’s (USPS) Global Business Systems Solutions (GBS) software. The Technology is used to place holds/alerts on mail/packages within the USPS system for further inspection. The Technology also includes Accenture LLP’s personnel who conduct the attendant services, personnel training, as well as prepare reports and recommendations, manuals, checklists, and technical documents related to the Technology.


Cepheid

The Technology is a portable Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) detection system using self-contained polymerase chain reaction (PCR) cartridges for sample preparation and testing. It is deployed as part of the U.S. Postal Service’s Biohazard Detection System, which is a biological pathogen point detection system configured to screen for the presence of anthrax in mailrooms.


Battelle National Biodefense Institute

The Technology consists of Management and Operations (M&O) Services for the Battelle National Biodefense Institute’s National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC), located at Fort Detrick, Maryland, which is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center. The NBACC was initiated to study the evolving biological threat environment, analyze biological threat agents, and conduct forensic testing of biological pathogens in the event of a terrorist attack.


Garrett Metal Detectors

Garrett Electronics, Inc., d/b/a Garrett Metal Detectors provides Walk-Through Metal Detectors (the "Technology"). The Technology is a line of walk-through metal detectors that use low frequency electromagnetic fields. Detections are made by measuring disturbances in those fields due to the presence of conductive metal. The Technology consists of three main subsystems: a detection unit (electronics), transmit and receive side panels, and auxiliary components. Technology-related user manuals are included. Designation coverage extends to the following models: CS-5000, MS-3500, MT-5500, and PD-6500i. Certification coverage extends to PD-6500i.
