Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Astrophysics Inc

Approved: March 23, 2012 | Expires: April 30, 2017

Astrophysics Inc. provides Conventional X-Ray Inspection Systems. The Technology is a product line of X-ray-based inspection equipment used to non-invasively screen baggage, parcels, mail, personal items, and cargo for the potential presence of threat objects or substances. The Technology uses X-ray generators and radiation detectors, together with image processing software, to provide the operator with detailed images of the item being inspected. Interpretation of the image is, however, the responsibility of the operator. The Technology also includes installation, maintenance, and operator training, as well as related manuals and training materials.


Ahura Scientific, Inc.

Approved: March 15, 2012 | Expires: March 31, 2017

Ahura Scientific, Inc. provides FirstDefenderRMTM and FirstDefenderRMXTM. The Technology consists of two separate hand-held devices designed to identify various chemical substances using Raman spectroscopy. The Technology also includes user guides and training.


Rapiscan Systems, Inc.

S2 Services Puerto Rico, LLC, is the Puerto Rican subsidiary of S2 Global, Inc., which is the subsidiary of Rapiscan Systems, a wholly owned affiliate of OSI Systems. S2 Global, Inc. provides Cargo Screening and Inspection Services. The Technology is a suite of services for the installation, operation and maintenance of non-intrusive security inspection systems at sea ports. The Technology includes selection, installation, operation and maintenance of security screening equipment and ancillary components as well as inspection area design and personnel management.


American Science & Engineering, Inc.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) provides X-ray Inspection Systems. The Technology is a line of devices based on the same core technology designed to facilitate inspection of parcels, cargo, and vehicles for terrorist threats. The Technology also includes installation, training, warranty and maintenance services, spare parts, technical manuals, documentation, and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.


Gold Type Business Machines, Inc.

Gold Type Business Machines Inc provides Info-Force™. The Technology is comprised of two specialized, but complementary, software applications: Info-Cop™ and Info-Corp™. Info-Cop™ was designed to provide law enforcement officers and first responders with secure, efficient messaging, chat, resource status, controlled Web access, and GPS information, as well as authorized access to real-time information from Federal, State, and locally maintained and controlled databases. Info-Corp™ enables non-law enforcement public-private users to connect to Info-Cop™ servers by using the specialized software application designed for non-law enforcement users.


SAFRAN USA, Inc., Morpho Detection, Inc. and Morpho Detection International, Inc.

SAFRAN USA, Inc., Morpho Detection, Inc., and Morpho Detection International, Inc. provide Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Services. The Technology is the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of an Integrated Logistics Support program to sustain Government-certified Explosives Detection Systems (EDS), Multiplexing Equipment (MUX), and associated Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) as deployed and operated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).


PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP

Approved: February 23, 2012 | Expires: March 31, 2017

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP provides Risk Management and Mitigation Planning Services. The Technology identifies risks to Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources, measures the impact of those risks, and develops plans to mitigate the identified risks. It is used to help Federal, State, and local government clients, as well as commercial clients and not-for-profit organizations to improve management of continuity of operations. The Technology also includes the selection, vetting, training, and management of the personnel who perform the above services, and all attendant manuals and deliverables. The Certification currently applies only to deployments of the Technology to maritime CIKR.


Valor Security Services

Approved: February 14, 2012 | Expires: March 31, 2017

Mydatt Services Inc., d.b.a. Valor Security Services, provides Valor Security Services. The Technology is physical security project management and provides trained security officers at retail commercial facilities. The Technology also includes training manuals, guides, and other materials.


AWWA

Approved: February 14, 2012 | Expires: January 31, 2017

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) provides American Water Works Association/American National Standards. The Technology consists of Standards which have been developed by the AWWA, an accredited Standards Development Organization and which have been approved as standards by the American National Standards Institute. The Standards, which are to be used in the protection of public water utilities, set forth minimum requirements for variable security operations, including those for training requirements for security professionals, physical asset security, and for organizational resiliency and continuity management. This Technology includes the following named American National Standards: ANSI/AWWA G430-09: Security Practices for Operation and Management, and ANSI/ASME-ITI/AWWA JI00-10: Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Asset Protection (RAMCAP®) Standard for Risk and Resilience Management of Water and Wastewater Systems.


American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Approved: February 10, 2012 | Expires: February 28, 2017

American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a New York corporation and an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Standards Development Organization has developed ASME/American National Standards. ASME uses a defined, repeatable Standards Development Process to produce and publish standards setting forth requirements for engineering, architectural, and construction assessment, design, installation, and safety as they relate to the prevention, detection, identification, or deterrence of Acts of Terrorism or for use in limiting the harm that such attacks might cause. This Technology includes the following named American National Standards: ASME/ANSI RA-S 2009 Standard for Level 1/Large Early Release Frequency Probabilistic Risk Assessment for Nuclear Power Plant Applications, ASME/ANSI Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III, Subsection NF and CC, Rules for Construction of Nuclear Facility Components, and ANSI/ASME A17.1 – Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The Technology also includes attendant manuals, checklists, and technical documents related to the Technology.
