Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Covenant Aviation Security, LLC’s Private Screening Services consists of trained and skilled personnel to operate screening equipment, conduct pre-board passenger screening, carry-on and checked luggage and accessible property screening to prevent prohibited items from entering the sterile area of the airport.

The Wackenhut Corporation’s Security Services provides physical security services at commercial, government, and government-related facilities that are designed to envision and defend against possible terrorist scenarios, deny terrorists access to secured facilities, and to respond to terrorist related security breaches.

Smiths Detection, Inc.: Hi-SCAN 7555i

Smiths Detection, Inc.’s Hi-SCAN 7555i is a compact X-ray inspection system used to screen luggage, mail, packages, and deliveries that enables the operator to view the inside of luggage and packages in black-and-white (distinguishing materials by density), color, or Hi-MAT Plus advanced material classification (distinguishing materials as organic/inorganic by atomic weight).

SAIC's Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS®) is a non-intrusive inspection tool used to create 2-dimensional radioscopic images of large vehicles, cargo containers, palletized cargo, and other bulk cargo.  Operating as a density imager against the threat posed by Weapons of Mass Destruction, smuggling of stowaways, and conventional weapons, VACIS® detects threats through the projection of shapes, objects, or densities that are inconsistent with customs declarations and shipping documents.

IIF™ is an integration and adaptation of commercial off-the-shelf databases, messaging software, and Web software. It facilitates the display of data from multiple sources and thus enables collaboration for situational awareness and decision-making.


Siemens Maintenance Services, LLC: Maintenance and Repair Services

Siemens Maintenance Services, LLC's Maintenance and Repair Services provides maintenance and technical services that ensure that screening equipment installed throughout the United States, which includes explosive trace detectors, cabinet x-ray systems, enhanced metal detectors, and explosive detection systems (collectively "screening systems"), function properly and detect threat items. The screening systems typically protect airports and other transportation facilities against the threats posed by weapons, explosives and other dangerous items. The Maintenance and Repair Services, which include field and preventative maintenance and support services on screening systems, are performed in strict conformance with manufacturer and customer requirements by specially trained personnel.


ITT Industries, Inc.: Force Protection Team

ITT Industries, Inc.'s Force Protection Team is a security services system for governmental installations and personnel that include a broad spectrum of security services ranging from armed and unarmed security, the monitoring of sensors, surveillance detection systems and guard and patrol dogs. Force Protection Team personnel undergo significant screening and specialized training before being deployed as qualified security professionals. The Force Protection Team conducts operations using detailed operations manuals, standing operating procedures, and battle drills to make protected installations an undesirable target for potentially hostile personnel or terrorist elements.
