Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

The Boeing Company

Approved: February 18, 2014 | Expires: September 30, 2017

The Boeing Company provides Explosives Detection Canine Services (the "Technology"). The Technology includes canine teams each composed of one canine and one handler trained to provide explosives detection services, as well as associated training and documentation.


Smiths Detection, Inc.

Approved: February 10, 2014 | Expires: July 31, 2015

Smiths Detection, Inc. provides the Bio-Seeq® PLUS PCR Bio-Identifier (the “Technology”). The Technology is a portable biological agent identification instrument used to screen suspicious powders for bacterial and viral biological warfare agents. The Technology uses LATE-PCR (Linear After The Exponential-Polymerase Chain Reaction) to replicate a specific genomic region from a target bacterial or viral agent and attaches a fluorophore to the newly replicated genetic material to allow for detection. The Technology can perform up to six distinct assays simultaneously. Included in the Technology are single-use assay cartridges for performing assays as well as operator training, training materials, maintenance services, technical documents and manuals, and a warranty.


Analogic Corporation

Approved: February 07, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Analogic Corporation provides the Carry-On Baggage Real-Time Assessment (“COBRA™”) Model Number AN6980 (the “Technology”). The Technology is an X-ray based detection system for the screening of carry-on items. The Technology also includes all technical manuals, warranty and maintenance services, site surveys, installation and on-site support, and training services.


Sentina Inc.

Approved: January 31, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Sentina Inc. provides the Sentina Freight Glove (the “Technology”). The Technology is a reusable cargo covering designed to prevent tampering during shipping. When fully enclosed, the Technology is a water and air tight covering for cargo and offers several layers of tamper evidence. The Technology also includes instruction manuals and warranty services.


American Chemistry Council, Inc. (“ACC”)

Approved: January 29, 2014 | Expires: January 31, 2019

The American Chemistry Council, Inc. (“ACC”) provides The Responsible Care® Security Code (the “Technology”). The Technology consists of a security management system encompassing 13 management practices. The Technology enhances the ability of ACC member and Partner companies to deter, detect, delay, defeat or respond to a physical or cyber attack against any form of chemical operation, whether at a fixed facility or during transportation.


Ryder System, Inc. and Ryder Truck Rental, Inc.

Approved: January 27, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Ryder System, Inc. and Ryder Truck Rental, Inc. provide the FMS Vehicle Rental, Lease, and Sales Customer Screening Program (the “Technology”). The Technology is a business process that enables the screening against open source watch lists of customers of the Applicant’s sales, leasing, or rental vehicle business prior to engaging in a transaction together with enhanced measures such as the restriction or closing of its business during times of heightened threats.


Leidos, Inc.

Approved: January 24, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2017

Leidos, Inc. provides VACIS® XPL Passenger Car Inspection System (the “Technology”). The Technology is an inspection system for scanning motorcycles, passenger cars, and buses. The Technology also includes installation, training, image analysis, and warranty and maintenance services that may be included in the sale of the Technology or as a stand-alone service offering.


Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. and Expeditors International (Puerto Rico) Inc.

Approved: January 23, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. and Expeditors International (Puerto Rico) Inc., provide Certified Cargo Screening Facilities (the "Technology"). The Technology is Certified Cargo Screening Facilities, designed to aid in meeting the congressional mandate that 100 percent of cargo placed on passenger airplanes be screened. The Technology includes, and provides, screeners and programmatic personnel for the screening of cargo in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”)’s Certified Cargo Screening Program at TSA-approved Certified Cargo Screening Facilities.


The National Fire Protection Association, Inc. (“NFPA”)

Approved: January 23, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

The National Fire Protection Association, Inc. (“NFPA”) is an American National Standards Institute (“ANSI”) Accredited Standards Development Organization that has developed NFPA/American National Standards using the NFPA Codes and Standards Development Process, which meets the requirements of due process and criteria for approval and withdrawal of American National Standards (the “Technology”). The Technology is a set of codes and standards that address anti-terrorism technologies in the areas of personal protective garments, equipment, professional qualifications for first responders, and for preparedness planning for infrastructure and enterprise protection, fire protection systems, and for critical electrical and building systems.


Thermo Scientific, Portable Analytical Instruments, Inc.

Approved: January 17, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Thermo Scientific, Portable Analytical Instruments, Inc. provides AhuraFD (the “Technology”). The Technology is a hand-held system designed to identify solid and liquid chemical materials and mixtures, including chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, pesticides, and explosives. The Technology also includes training, training materials, operators’ manual, software updates, the software update procedure, and accessories essential to the operation of the Technology.
